4.3 Backing Up Your Campaign
4.0 Campaign Overview 4.3 Backing Up Your Campaign

Game Masters can download the campaign's data as JSON files, one section at a time. Open it from Download JSON: View Options in the Quick Info panel.

The options page lists each section of your campaign with its own Download JSON button. The sections are Abilities, Adventure Notes, Campaign Shops, Characters, Developments, Domains & Regions, Encounters, Entities, Events, Kinships, Master Item Library, Places, Players, Quest Log, Regional Maps, and Stat Groups & Stats.

Two things to know before you rely on it
These files cannot be uploaded back into Chronica. There is no import. The export is for keeping your own copy of your material outside Chronica — reading it, printing from it, or moving it into another tool by hand. It will not restore a deleted campaign.
It is not a complete copy of your campaign. Several things have no export section at all, including your Campaign Calendar, files in the File Hub, Currencies, Profile Templates, Family Trees, the Activity Log, and your uploaded images. If those matter to you, keep your own copies of them separately.
Reading the files

JSON is a text format, so the files open in any text editor, but they are much easier to read in a JSON viewer, which shows the content as expandable layers. There are also free tools that turn a JSON file into a spreadsheet if you would rather work that way.

Large sections take time. A campaign with a lot of characters or items can take a few minutes to produce a file. Let the page finish rather than refreshing or clicking the button again.
